CE QUE L’ATTENTAT MANQUE CONTRE LE VOL 253 NOUS APPREND SUR LA SECURITE AERIENNE ET SUR AL-QAÏDA

La tentative d’attentat contre un avion de ligne américain, le 25 décembre, nous donne plusieurs leçons que nous devons assimiler si nous voulons que la lutte antiterroriste soit plus efficace. 

Premièrement : 8 ans après le 11 septembre, la sécurité aérienne reste très largement virtuelle et théorique. Des centaines de millions, si ce n’est des milliards, ont été dépensés dans la “sécurisation” des aéroports et des avions. Mais cet effort gigantesque n’a pas empêché Richard Reid (“Shoe Bomber”) de prendre un vol Paris-Miami en décembre 2001, avec une charge explosive cachée dans une de ses chaussures.

WHAT THE FLIGHT 253 CASE TEACHES US ON AIR SECURITY AND AL-QAEDA

The attempt to blow up a U.S. airliner, on Friday, December 25 is teaching us various lessons we must learn if we want to be more effective in the fight against terrorism. 

First of all: 8 years after September 11, flight security remains largely virtual and theoretical. Hundreds of millions if not billions have been spent in securing airports and airplanes. But it didn’t prevent Richard Reid (“Shoe Bomber”) to enter a Paris-Miami flight in December 2001, with an explosive charge hidden in his shoe.
